Are you a solo photographer?

I'm getting new tires put on my car and typing this from my iPad to pass time.  How many of you all enjoy going out shooting with others vs going out solo?

Most of the time, I prefer being alone.  Mainly because I'm able to focus on the shot or shots that I'm after.  A friend and I had a talk about this yesterday because I keep blowing off shooting together.  I told him why and he joked and called me a hermit.  lol

How about you?

As a wedding photographer I would hire an assistant to carry equipment and take candids at the reception. Really a life saver!

The only time I am accompanied when out shooting is when my wife goes along. I make her carry my tripod.....B)

Why so serious?

My wife used to go with me but she's gone now. Then had a girl friend but she's gone too. I qualify for a hermit!

I too am a hermit. I have gone out with some other shooters, but they were always in a hurry. Perhaps that is because they were younger. The last person I shot with probably shot 20 times more shots than I did, of more subjects, but told me they got fewer keepers. When I said something about slowing down they said that wasn't the problem, and I never heard from them again. I think that the majority of interbutz generation thinks life should move at 100Mb a second. Problem with moving that fast is that you miss a lot.

For the most part, I prefer to shoot on my own.  When you are with others, there is just to much talking taking place that takes attention away from what you are doing.

So far my track record is I am much much better on my own. With my family I get rushed around and I can't stop to get a proper photo, with other photographers I get caught up in what they are doing more than what I should be doing, I also feel like I should shoot what they like to shoot, not what I like to shoot.

Depends on the gig I'm shooting, but mostly I like to shoot solo.

If I am shoot creative stuff I like flying solo and being able to work at my own pace. If ti is commercial work I need an assistant these days.

+1 more so these days when I seemingly have less and less time.  So getting out and getting quality camera time comes with seclusion from friends and other photographers.

Preferably alone, with no schedule or agenda.

Mostly solo, but I have been out with other shooters, normally no more than one unless I'm doing a class...

Usually when I get out, it's me and myself.  Now don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional meetup group photography walk.  However I find these more of a social event than getting any serious photography done.
