Nikon D700 Infrared results

I can't get infrared results with my new Nikon D700 that are anywhere near as good as I got with my old Nikon. How come?

Believe it or not, this is one time when older is actually better. Nikon keeps tweaking the filter over the sensor to eliminate more and more nearinfrared, which extends exposrues longer and longer with externalfilters. But doesn't to a thing for infrared shooting.

My advise? If it's not too late, keep your older Nikon and just use it for your infrared work.

Some folks spend $500 to have a DSLR converted to shoot strictly IR.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Depends on your setup.

I wonder if infrared filters are any good on digitals. It'd probably cut down light considerably. Anyone here tried one?

Having your sensor converted to infrared is an option, but an expensive one. I've seen really amazing examples from cameras converted this way. I'd never do this to a D700 though. Mutilate a rebel or D50 instead ;)

I agree. To me the filters are a half ass way of doing, and the results never come out as good as they could be with the full conversion.

I've always wanted to try infrared but I don't want to change my camera.
