When are you printing on metal vs canvas?

I've been seeing more photographers talking about printing on metal.  I'm sure there must be a better scenarios than others for printing on metal.  Would you see this sort of print is best for landscapes or portraits, or ??

I don't think they are conducive to one type of photo more than another. So long as the image is composed well, has a good dynamic range, etc., it should turn out well. I've had a few black and white street shots printed on metal and really dig how they turned out.

Most likely for local pickup only.  Unless they are wrapping with 2' of bubble wrap around the print.

100% depends on the look you are after

1.  When the client wants it
2. When the image calls for it
3.  When I just want some different

Canvas, metal, acrylic or glass.   What determines what material I'll have the photo printed on depends on the clients budget.  If for me, it's depending on what look I'm after or what room in my home.

Wasn't me :)

We replaced all the canvas prints in our sun room with metal prints just before Thanksgiving last year.  One of my clients had order metal prints last summer, this is how I got a introduced to a metal print.  At first I didn't care for it, however then the same client got a landscape metal print that went over his fireplace and it looked amazing.

Funny thing is, we just ordered our first 2 metal prints last week.  One is for a photo of sunset in Jacksonville FL last December and the other one is the NYC Skyline from pre 9/11.  Should be getting the prints on Thursday this upcoming week.

I'll post my opinion after I see what these look like.
