When is a photography studio space too small?

I'm looking around at rental rates for photography studio space and finding rates and studio size to be all over the place.

Let me ask your opinion on size:  at what point would you say studio space for shooting portraits sessions only would be too small?

Well that is a moving target of an answer.  I would say for me, 10x15' would be the smallest space I would consider for studio space.

Well it is too small when you are using a fisheye, and cannot get far enough back for a head shot.
Well what is the distance you need for your lenses that you use to get a full body shot? That is if you do those types of portrait shots. But I would also want a large enough space where the lighting would not heat the space up so much that it would be uncomfortable. Nothing like trying to get a good portrait when the client is sweating bullets.

Nearly all my portraits are done outdoors and on location.  So a closet will work for me.

Completely dependent on your own comfort level and whether you're capable of properly capturing the right shot. As long as you have room to move around and experiment, it'll work.
