Panasonic Eneloops vs Sanyo Eneloops

6 years 5 months ago #553543 by Fess Walker
A few months ago, Panasonic bought the Eneloop brand from Sanyo correct.  Did they change the battery?  I need to get some new rechargable's and liked the Eneloops in the past, however have concerns about Panasonics ownership.

I find the Panasonics were a big letdown. The original Sanyos I've had for five or six years still out perform the new Pannies I regrettably bought a year ago, or so. Forget the "basics" as well. I could be wrong, but it seems the rechargeables made in Japan seem to be much better than the Chinese batteries...

Unfortunately, that did happen. I don't have enough experience to comment. My AAs are the old ones, and I have some newer AAAs. The latter are retaining their charge well enough while not in use. That's about all I can say.

That's a bummer, good thing I bought a new set of rechargeable earlier this year!

:agree:
Yeah my Sanyos are still going strong, but now I will have to do some searching for another provider.

Most of mine are the older Sanyo's and I have never had an issue with them. I only have a few Panasonic made ones and again, I've not noticed any issues.

When  I need some aa or aaa, I've returned to using one time and toss 'em energizers. I haven't found a rechargeable worth dog snot since Sanyo sold the Eneloop line.....:(

What kind of charger are you using? I have a Nitecorp that can recondition older batteries

I have a Tenergy eight bay, an EBL (aa only) and the Eneloop four bay charger. They all charge the older Sanyo batteries fine, and the storage discharge in those is quite slow, sometimes months to a 50% status. My newer Panasonics, (two different types) Amazon basics and another batch (forget the brand) I tossed in the trash a few months ago charge,  and discharge well over 50% in storage in a mere couple days. The exception is the Japanese made basics, it takes maybe four days to discharge 50%....
Its not my chargers, and there are others with the same experience....

Are those Amazon reviews reflecting Eneloops when they were owned by Sanyo AND Panasonic or Panasonic only?

Both, and its seems with a quick look the one star reviews are mostly as of late...Panasonics.

So what were the grounds that Sanyo sold to Panasonic?  Seemed like the company was in good shape, so why the sale?
