Photographing Iceland

When is the best time of the year to visit Iceland?  Have you been able to photograph one of their live volcanos?

I know there is Ice Beach and caves.   I'm thinking it would be great to visit during peak volcanic activity to increase odds of photographing something extraordinary.

This shows of the big one coming:  www.forbes.com/sites/trevornace/2017/11/...-erupt/#13e8b22b1f0c

I'd be just happy with a small one to photograph!

I'd go there in the summer myself, not sure what the best time would be for pure photographic reasons....

Why so serious?

Pretty sure it's towards Aug/Sept when you want to arrive there.  I might be wrong, to be sure, I'd call up one of the photo workshops in that area, and find out best time of  year from them.  Or you could just look at when all the workshops are going on.  That would be a good indicator too.

Got out there a few years back in the fall...climate and daylight was ideal for outdoor photography. But it partially depends on what you want to photograph, really. As far as volcanoes go...you sort have to play by their schedule.

You guys are awesome, thank you for all the help here.  I'm actually thinking September time frame because many of the things I want to photograph, need it to be cold there.  Plus as Kayla pointed out, Northern lights will be seen then too!
