Scanned 35mm slides

4 years 4 months ago #667210 by BadTuna
Hello! I am new to the forum and seeking advice on the next step of my project. I am not a photographer but my father was an amateur photographer and shot 35mm slides starting in 1957 until his death in 1977. The slides have been with my sister until I asked her if I could scan them. They have not been viewed for decades. I didn't know what I was getting into but after purchasing an Epson V800 scanner I went to work. I just finished scanning 2,450 slides and I scanned them all as TIFF files. My plan is to pick out the slides that are of family and invite my brother and sister along with their children and grandchildren to a slide show at a local community center. This venue is an old school and the auditorium has a movie cinema size screen. At the event, I want to have a video camera present to include reactions and commentary by the family. Finally, I will edit that footage and create a video with music and commentary about my fathers photography. Although the master file is all TIFFs, the presentation at the community center can be in a smaller file size like a JPEG correct? I'm not versed enough to know if they will display ok on the large screen or not. Thoughts?

To be on the safer side, I would shoot in RAW using a
slide copier and making sure to protect the whites

When you're done, export to jpeg at 100% @ 300PPI.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

This...Also, I never got good results from a flat bed scanner for negs or slides, a lens mounted copier was best in my case, one at a time!

Why so serious?
