Camera left in sun all day

4 years 2 months ago #674888 by Kyle O
I left my camera on the kitchen table this morning, which I normally will put back in my bag.  However I was looking at photos, and forgot to put away.  I headed off for 6 hours and got back and camera was in the sun and super hot.  I have not turned it on yet.

Wanted to let it completely cool down and to check here first.

Thank you

Here's what Nikon's owners manual says:

Optimal operating temperatures for your camera, please refer to your camera user manual. In the majority of cases, these temperatures are between 0 to +40 degrees C (+32 to +104 degrees F)

So unless you feel the temps exceeded above 104 degrees, I wouldn't worry about it, but let's not try to let this happen too often. Most manufactures would be more concern with lower temps as cold weather will drain batteries etc and would need to be brought back to room temperature slowly or risk fungus etc.

Not drain but slow down dramatically chemical reactions,
the capacity will be recovered when cells have warmed up.
