Embarrassed to take out camera out in public?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not the teaching sort of person.  So even with my wife recently getting a camera, I'm short on good advice for her.  One thing she is struggling with, is taking her camera out in public.  "I'm embarrassed".  My response has been "embarrassed for what?  Everyone has masks on and can barely recognize you".

What would you say to someone who has trouble taking out their camera in public?

Well I would be, Jon!

If my camera was gold plated with mother of pearl incrustations.
Does she think she can get better shots hiding in a closet? But a
normal looking body and lenses… get over it, and smile.

Have a good time! :P

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Yeah yeah, I hear you.  I have said close to the same.  But she feels people are looking at her and wondering what she is doing.  I told her most are likely just curious what camera she is using.  The idea was that she could get good at this and help me with weddings and portraits.  But she needs to get over this comfort thing first.

I’ll bet if she goes out and is shooting pictures of buildings, trees, flowers, landscapes, etc. (even if that’s not her usual subjects of interest) people will lose interest in her fairly quickly.  Dan

I was that way back when I first got started.  Best thing to do is get out and just step out of her comfort space.
