DSLR owners getting used to EVFs?

I've been putting off buying a mirrorless camera because of the EVF.  I just like the viewfinders on DSLRs much better.  But it looks sooner than later, I'll need to make the jump to mirrorless as it looks like most manufactures are focusing on mirrorless.

So, those that have been DSLR owners, when you moved to mirrorless, what negatives did you experience with the EVF?  Did you get used to it?

A shop in the capital sent me two Z7's to test and review
last year. They went back for that very reason as my first
disappointment: the EVF… horrible in my book.

You don't need to make the jump at all, Neil! Just think of
all those delicious DSLRs that will without a job and beg-
ging to work for almost nothing! :P :P :P

Light is free… capturing it is not!

G'day Neil

After 40+ years of SLRs I went digital in 2004 with my first EVF camera and that EVF was pretty crude by today's standards. I struggled to see beyond the dotty-image and had to live in hope that the 3mpx camera image was so much better than the 1/3mpx EVF image. It was - and that camera gave me over 90,000 images before if finally decided it needed a rest

Today's Panasonic FZ that I am running is such a huge improvement on that early EVF it's a bit like comparing the best that HenryFord created vs today's Ford Mustang ... and there is no way on earth that I would go back to a HenryFord optical viewfinder

In very broad terms, the EVF is a tiny TV screen - and its colours can be varied by you and the menu settings =if= you wish to do so. Personally I find the Panasonic EVF colours to be a damn close match to my eyes, so I don't bother fine-tuning it. The ability for me to select a) no screen info at all vs b) partial screen info vs c) 100% camera settings on the screen is a great boon

The fact that it auto-darkens when I am shooting sunrise/sunsets is great, along with the auto-lighten when I am in very low light is also great. The latter does introduce EVF noise onto the screen, but to be able to see stuff at night is really beaut. However - like an OVF, if there is nothing there, then there is nothing to display

Hope this helps
