Photographer friend got jumped nearly lost all gear!

I live in NYC and a good friend of mine got jumped last night while downtown photographing city lights.  Robber underestimated my friends strength and ended up getting a tripod against his head.  I have heard more stories from around during the last year, just sharing this with everyone, keep an eye on your gear and YOURSELF.  These bad people are doing this with others around.

So tired of all the negative that is taking up the headlines these days.  Wish these sort of things didn't happen.  Happy your friend is OK.

Yep, more reasons to make sure you carry pepper spray or something you can use at someone coming at you.

I believe things will only get worse before they get better.  We need change and that isn't going to happen over night.  Look at back in the 80s and 90s what needed to happen in order to clean up Brooklyn.  It took nearly two decades for it to see positive change.

"Yep, more reasons to make sure you carry pepper spray or something you can use at someone coming at you."

He used his tripod and got the same result. Pepper spray takes seconds to find and release the safety before it can be used. What was in his hand (the tripod) seemed to have been faster, easier, and more effective in the heat of the moment. I think I would have done the same.

I always carry my tripod with out camera on it, and extended so I can swing like a bat.

Thank you, yeah certainly a close call.  Just sharing this story to remind people we need to be careful and be mindful of our surroundings.
