I know this is kind of late to ask, but what's the trick to photographing the eclipse without damaging my camera?

Stack your ND filters that you have so you have at least 15 stops of NDs in front of your lens.

If you're in the path of totality and the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon, you don't need to do anything special.

But before totality and after totality, the Sun will burn a hole in the back of your camera if you're not using a solar filter.

This was my setup when I was in the path of totality.

Interesting and when totality takes place you take the caps off?

I wasn't even close to the path this time, so didn't bother even trying, but a #10 or higher rated glass like used in a welding helmet, tape attached over the end of the lens of the camera will work well. They are only a few dollars each, depending on the size and number rating, and readily available from any welding supply near you. Get one larger than the lens that you plan to use. Gaffers tape (Not Duck or Duct) tape works well to attach this glass to the camera lens. If you use Gaffers tape you will have no problem with glue residue on your camera or lens, since it is designed not to leave any of the glue behind.

Yes. Those are just cardstock tubes with solar filters taped over the ends.

And you put them back on when totality is over.

How about all the articles that came our after the eclipse that focused around damaging your eyes.  Aimed at all the people who were looking up at the eclipse with no glasses.

Didn't hear about anyone damaging their camera, just headlines of people damaging their eyes.
