A nice underwater camera?

13 years 3 months ago #33192 by bird brain
I want to do some snorkeling and possibly a little diving this summer and would like to purchase a fairly inexpensive underwater camera. I don't have time to do alot of research, so thought I'd take advantage of all the gurus on this sight and pick your brains for recommendations.

Please.

I've had great fun with two Olympus underwater cameras. They only go to 10 feet but I'm pretty buoyant and can't get below that anyway...

I had a blast with my Canon Powershot D10, which will handle down to about 30ft. It takes good pics in good light but suffers a bit more in the high ISOs. It may also succumb to aggresive teenage handling :-(

Olympus was the first to make a point and shoot underwater capable, and now more manufacturers are making nice underwater cameras.

Pentax,
Canon,
Olympus,
Casio
Panasonic

Off the top of my head I know those make waterproofs. Your biggest factor is depth. If you're considering diving, I'd check with the manufacturers and find out how far down you can use their underwater models.
