Are photography workshops worth it?

I am wondering if anyone has ever attended any Photo Workshops and found it useful.

Are there any that you can recommend? nature/landscape/wildlife photography workshops.

I've never been to a workshop, but for every photographer I have talk to that have gone to a workshop enjoys them. They get alot of information, help and best of all...you can make friends with fellow photographers. I would have to say it's worth it to make another photographer friend. Network with them on facebook, twitter etc.. Plan future shootings.

Iwould say it depends on who is presenting. I have taken photography course not workshops where the instructor was terrible. One guy couldn't answer questions he would take your question and somehow turn it into what he wanted to say. I have taken camera club workshops and they have been very good. One guy gave an excellent talk on exposure. I would say check out the credentials of the presenter. The two mentioned are the best, you don't need to check them out.

I've heard of Scott Kelby, I'll look into his workshops.

Forget the manufacturer workshops, they generally suck. I went to the Nikon one once and it seemed more of a marketing deal over an actual workshop.

I have attended a few one-day workshops over the past year. Some were excellent and some left me a bit cold. One couple (husband and wife presenters) insisted that EVERY shot be on a tripod and shot in manual mode. While that my produce the sharpest photos, to me it was uber kill.
These ladies have it together.

I'd say for the most part, you'll get something usefu out of a workshop. However, at least in my neck of the woods, they tend to be a little pricey for my budget. I've had a lot of satisfaction out of surfing the web and looking for free tutorials. You'd be surprised at the quality of some of the free lessons on line.
