I've made a little money doing some portraits around the neighborhood and now I'm thinking I'l like to expand into wedding photography. Waht's a good way to started and how do I get a good reputation? Also, if I'm bidding for a wedding, how many photos would I normally take?

First start by being a backup photographer. You never want to be the main photographer for your first wedding. Make sure you have the right equipment. There have been threads made on this forum on wedding photography. How many photos you take depends if you plan on shooting for 4hrs to a whole day.

before you work as a 2nd shooter, do alot of research on wedding photography. Don't just look at the wedding photos. Being a wedding photographer is not a piece of cake.

So true, make sure you find someone that is going to teach you something. You might also want to look at WPPI.

I would highly recommend as previously mentioned to get involved with WPPI, I just attended the conference in Vegas a couple weeks ago and have to say, IMHO if you are serious about wanting to get into wedding photography, this is a great show or organization to be part of.

:agree: with all the above sage advice. Would also suggest reading : Professional Techniques for the Wedding Photographer by George Schaub ;) That said; know going in it is a stressful field.

Several of us have written long threads of advice for newbie wedding shooters. This is a lot harder than it looks and you don't want to just "bid" on wedding work. Go to work as an assistant to a wedding pro and work your way up. Then decide if you want to do wedding work.
