White balance auto vs PRE w/ expodisc?

I'm thinking about getting one of those expodisc white balance filters. I was wondering though, how much difference would there be from using the camera in Auto white balance? Any?

Look at what the built-in settings can do. See my album "White Balance" (Serarch Albums for White Balance to compare snowy photos at various pre-sets.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

It is more exact in my case. Sometimes the AWB gets confused under mixed lighting conditions. Some people though have been using things like Pringle Tops and cut out pieces of milk jugs with pretty good results.

I have a white balance cap. Using that...my white balance is correct more then if I use a preset.

It's going to depend on the camera and the lighting situation you are in. I have been doing a review on one of these ExpoDisc's for a few weeks and have to to say at first I was a little uncertain on how much difference one of these would make.

So here's my brief 2 cents on the ExpoDisc white balance filter:
1. Very easy to use, with Nikon D700 all you do is move your white balance to "Pre", then hold your white balance button down till "Pre" starts to blink. Then place the ExpoDisc over your lens for a tight fit, take a photo. On the display it should read "Good". Now your camera's white balance is dialed in.

2. Taking shots I have noticed both indoor with off camera diffused flash and outdoors, you will receive what I can best describe as more natural looking photo as my eye's saw the image. So great it does work and it works as ExpoImaging marketing material suggested it would! As I build up more experience I will be posting a more comprehensive review of the ExpoDisc.

Here are a couple shots to illustrate the difference:

but the examples are shot at different angles. Different angle can result in different lighting to affect the image.

Good point, 2nd one is pretty much at same angle. I will take some new ones just for you, with the tripod! ;)
