Never shot lightning before, are you just keeping the shutter open in bulb? What aperture? Considering it happens so quickly what sort of gadgets will help you catch it?

No. I had seen to advertised and at $329 plus a modified trigger release, it was not on the top of my "wish list".

Well I do it the old fashioned was which is mounting a ND filter, stopping down the f-stop, and slow shutter speeds at ISO 100 or 200 depending on which is the base ISO. Using a wide lens will help you alot.

Nah, you can do slow shutter speeds.

When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

Lightning may not strike the same place twice, but it can spark in the same general area repeatedly so long shutterspeeds are what you want to maximize chances of capturing multiple strikes. I got these ones last night, they were 30 seconds each.
