Hooking GPS up to camera?

I was told you can hook a GPS up to a Nikon D-80 camera? I was wondering which GPS unit do people use for this. How many of you will pin point a photo with a GPS coordinate? Sounds a little hard core if you ask me.

I use a JOBO hot-shoe GPS on my Canon. It records the coordinates when a shot is fired (no flash of course). Mine is a 2 year old model. After shooting, I load the photos into a single folder, plug the GPS in via USB cord and open the JOBO software. The window shows a side-by-side and allows me to match all or some of the shots. (The USB connection also charges the GPS).

I only use it when traveling around so I can ID where shots were taken. I could have really used this on a 10-day trip across Newfoundland 3 years ago. I had to keep a time log to figure out where shots were taken.

I've been using this when I shoot, and I love it. I don't think it works with your model, there are other alternatives. It's great when you shoot somewhere and want to visit it again.

Personally I dont geotag my images. I do use GPS though to get coordinates that I write dwon in a notebook. Mostly I use this when I find some Petroglyphs, ruins and artifacts so I can return easily.

How do you know if your camera can be hooked up to GPS?

The JOBO will attach to any hot-shoe. A couple of brands require an adaptor to match the Canon/Nikon shoe mount.
It simply is recording data when the shutter is opened. The "tag" is done in PP.

The Nikon unit does list your camera as compatible for their unit.
