If you knew what you know now, back when you first started photography, would you buy a different brand or different lenses?

Well I am still learning, so hopefully with the help of this forum I won't make any mistakes and won't have to worry about starting over.

I think I would have made the same choices. I like my gear and it gives me room to grow.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

It's an interesting question... At the time I made the Canon Nikon selection I researched both brands until I was able to feel comfortable with my choice. I have learned a lot since then about my camera and like it even more. I know there is a lot more to learn about the other brand and given a second chance I might research harder towards that brand.

Nope, I went through both major brands, and love what I have.

I like the path I have choosen. Everything I had bought when I bought it was for a reason. I have grown into the photographer I am today because of it.

Well... I started with a broken canon because it was easy to diagnose and fix, I was able to test a friends out first, and because I could tell the models apart easily. I really liked it, and am pleased with it as a brand. So no, if I could start over again, even if I had money to buy it new and working, I wouldn't change the brand (maybe just the model)

As far as lenses go. Yes I would have started with a different lens. I had an off brand 28-70mm lens, and I didn't know until I not a nice nifty 50mm, how bad the optics in it were. I would have skipped that first lens altogether till I could afford a nicer one. I really knew NOTHING about the lenses starting out. This site has help a lot with my learning in that department.
