I've got a compass, flashlight, fire starter, and pocket knife in mine. I've been glad to have the compass a few times, but luckily haven't had need of the other stuff yet.

an insulated bottle bag, came with a fanny pack I got and it makes a great lens bag. Protection and keeps it cool as well. And you never think of a lens being in it.
