Can I use a Canon close up filter on a 105mm macro lens?

Yes.

:)

To get really close, add extension tubes.

I suppose you can but I cant vouch for how well it will do. You are talking about the 105 Micro correct? If that is the lens then you really dont need it.

The Kenkos are great. Get the three tube set.

Kenko & the "Pro Optic" brand which was just in a thread here on the forum are 2 of the few tubes that have AF contacts. Not that AF is very helpful when shooting macro because it isn't, but they allow you to retain metering, which the manual tubes don't allow (unless you have a "Pro" level body {with Nikon anyway})... The Canon close up lens (it really is a lens & not a filter) is the 250D or the 500D. They are doublets (two element lenses) & are better than the single element versions but tubes will still give you better IQ...

I'm having good luck with the Zeikos brand (from B&H). Good solid contacts.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
