Wacom tablets

12 years 11 months ago #75683 by Nikonjan
I haven't seen anything on the using of Wacom tablets. I have one but rarely use it. Maybe I don't have it set up right. Wacom is located here in Vancouver, WA. and I have seen many demos at trade shows but still do not use it. My potato(mouse) seems to work fine for me when I need to paint/brush in close. I know the sensitivity isn't set right. I am so lazy when it comes to these things and just stay with whatever works for me. What about you?

I use one that is a 21 inch monitor, and you draw directly on the monitor. The cheaper ones I could never get used to. I know a lot of people that love them though.

Force yourself to use it for a week, while making the fine tunings to fit your style, and you won't want to use a mouse again. Promise.

I tried using one for 2 months, and I hated it.

Hated the mouse or the tablet?

I have one, got it this past xmas. Haven't really had much time to use it. Used it a couple of times, but I am so used to using the mouse for everything, when I open photoshop and lightroom, I don't even think of the tablet. Which is sad, because it used to sit right next to where my mouse sits, for the reason when I edit, it's right there, but I ended up moving it (which is still easy access).

Wacoms work for some people, and some they just don't. Usually hit or miss.

Those moniters are a bit too spendy for me. I do get the pen and tablet out sometimes and people do swear by them if you can get yourself to just get use to them. I hate spending money on things to find you may not use them. I think Peer pressure gets to me from my fellow photographers. If they have something then you have to buy it too.:rolleyes

I have this one...

I wanted a bigger one. Had one all picked out... it was around $500-$600. The problem is, I asking my inlaws for this as a xmas present. Since FIL retired, they can't spend alot, so I had to down size.

I like the one I have, but I do wish I had something bigger, more buttons etc.. Smiliar to what Scotty linked.

I have had a large Wacom Intuos (8x12) surface for several years and really like the control it gives you once you get used to it (sort of like the mouse when you first used it). It makes a lot of sense to an artist who is used to drawing with pencil or brush.
Mine is an older model (pre-wireless) but works well for me. Would love to consider a Cintiq one day. Then it would feel totally natural.

I have an older Wacom 6x8 Graphire but I use it a lot.. in combination with my regular mouse.. Seldom use the Wacom mouse and haven't experimented much with the pen pressures, buttons, etc... Still, for all my burning, dodging, masking, pen, selecting, and similar functions I use the tablet.. I'm a lifelong pen, pencil, & charcoal doodler so it feels natural for me.. except I still have trouble getting the angle of the tablet, the angle of my head, and my tongue just right.. :P
