Small tripods

12 years 9 months ago #109793 by fotozone
Does anyone here use a mini tripod. There are a lot of them from the cheap ones you can get on e-bay to the Gorillapod. I am looking for something small that will fit in my camerabag or at least be easy to carry. I was wondering if anyone here has tried anything that will hold a DSLR with a telephoto lens and what they think of it.

The gorilla pod is not going to hold very much weight at all. I have one of the larger ones that I keep for my compact camera. The smaller ones I gave away.

I travel with a Manfrotto 785B with a small pistol grip ball head that, in my opinion, does not really support the weight of a DSLR with a zoom lens. I use it but I am exploring to find a little bit heavier head.

I've got the largest gorillapod (bought it quite recently), and, so far, I'm happy with it. Doesn't replace the real thing though, but is quite nice for traveling light.

:agree: I would not use it with a tele unattended except as a support for hand-held (like on a tree or car window).

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

One of my Dad's 'pods got one of the leg extensions bent. So I cut the legs down and us it as my mini-pod.

I know that it does not fall in the lines of a mini-tripod, but I keep a home made bean bag 12x12 in my vehicle to use as needed. Keeps the camera very steady when I don't have my tripod with me. Hey it works.

That looks handy. Also you can put the name Manfrotto in your bag at a reasonable price. You need to give us a review Mathew.

There are many alternatives to a tripod, such as ones you find here. One of my favorites is the "Super Clamp" by Manfrotto.

:goodpost: This look very good. I have a large and very sturdy Gorillapod I got at the PDN show in New York, and I haven't seen arounbd. It holds a D3 with 70-200 f2.8 attached by the lens collar to a ball head. I have used it with no hint of a problem.

Reading the customer reviews on the link site I notice that SLR users point out that, despite the advertising, it's not really sturdy enough to support an SLR, but is good for small compact cameras.
