Spider holster vs Cotton carrier vs Blackrapid

9 years 7 months ago #405070 by H Rocky
I want something that is comfortable and allows me to easily have my camera hands free when I want it.  I'm trying to figure out which of these is the best or favored my other photographers.  Looking at them, they all are kind of different.  The Spider system would be on my hip, the Cotton one is on torso and the Blackrapid is a sling.

Please post feelings and pro's and con's on each if you can.  Are you happy with what you have?

I have the Cotton Carrier with the holster so I can carry two cameras. I can just use the holster on my belt if I want. I have a Blackrapid knockoff and it seem good for, say, shooting at a gym where having it swing around is not an issue. The cotton carrier is rock solid and does not allow the camera to swing away from your body.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

How does the Cotton Carrier get used in the winter months when you have to wear a coat?

Usually you can just adjust the straps to make it bigger.  Or wear in under your coat if you think you'll be taking it off.

I don't live in a really cold place, so this isn't an issue for me.

Anyway.

Cotton Carrier for active work, hiking/walking a lot, climbing up and down hills and so on.

Spider for less active times

Black Rapid is essentially a neck strap that's just held a different way, so it's good for general use, but won't distribute the weight as well as the Cotton Carrier or move it to your hips like that Spider (the Cotton Carrier can be held on the hips using a belt of some kind if you really want.

All three make you attach something to the bottom of the camera, I'd say the Cotton Carrier is the least obtrusive of the three, since the spider attachment is a tad bulky and the black rabid has a strap attached.

I have the Spider set up and it works as it should.  I would like to have a smaller belt, but then you won't have the same support.
