Beginner camera bag recommendations

I can tell you all day long which bag you need to hold your golf clubs.  But thanks to my wife telling me I need another hobby, I bought a Sony A7r III and now as off 2 months ago, into photography.  However I still don't have a camera bag.

So, that's what I'm looking for help from you today.   I have the Sony a7R III, and just one 50mm lens at this point.  So all I need is a small camera bag.

Not even sure where to start.  I would like something that is a little future proof.  Meaning it can hold at least a couple more lenses that I likely will get in the future.  Something that is trendy looking and doesn't look like every other camera bag.

Please share recommendations.

Jon

I will suggest Think Tank, as they have a variety of well designed, well made products. My being an affiliate has nothing to do with my opinion.   If you want to buy directly from them, I have a link.

Seriously, though, they make good stuff. A lot depends upon your budget, and style preference. I'd suggest starting out with the smaller Vision. If the photography bug takes hold, this will likely not be your last camera bag.
I have 6 different bags/backpacks now, and each serves a different purpose. But the Think Thank is my favorite.

If you feel like spending several hundred dollars, go for a Billingham.

Gary do you have their Airport Security roller?  I saw that bag just last week.  I good friend of mine bought one and I have to say, that bag is gorgeous.  Just much larger than my needs at this time.

I do not. I use a Pelican case for a carry-on at this time. I'm not averse to a roller, but I don't yet really travel enough to justify the expense. If I were to acquire one, however, it would be the International, I think, or the Advantage Plus, to work on any plane.

Don't those Pelican cases have wheels under them?

My 1510 does, yes as do larger ones. Smaller ones do not.

OP - look at Peak Design bags as well.

Gary - is that heavy loaded?

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

The Pelican? Not to me. I'm guessing less than 8 pounds, empty, so mostly it depends upon what you put into it. I've had more trouble lifting one of my suitcases into an overhead bin.  Which is why I use this and a backpack or small duffel now for carry-ons.

Are you using just the Pelican  for your camera gear or are you using the backpack as well?

Good question. The Pelican for camera gear that I want to keep with me. Clothes, medicine, cords, cables, iPad/whatever, in the backpack. The rules now are that one item has to fit under the seat in front of you. Any other camera equipment would go in checked luggage (e.g. a tripod).

I do use the Pelis for safer transport but rarely work with
them; I will rather fill my Tamrac shoulder bag with the
gear I will need on a shoot.

I don't use the popular backpacks at all.

Light is free… capturing it is not!
