I find the neck strap annoying especially if i'm taking pictures vertically....

do all of you guys use a neck strap? i'm planning on getting a grip and grip belt for my camera and remove the neck strap...i'm just wondering how everyone else do it.

Maybe your neck strap is too small. Some neck straps are larger then others, which doesn't get in the way as much.

All you need to do is twist it a few times around your wrist and hey presto its out the way

I have always detested neck straps. I hate having a camera hanging around my neck. A year ago I discovered the Black Rapid R-Straps. It's more a shoulder sling than neck strap. I bought one and love it. Very comfortable and convenient. Check out the videos on their website .

I often use it in conjunction with the Think Tank Skin belt system for carrying lenses and accessories.

Chris

I hate straps, even when using my RB-67 I never used a strap, once the guy next to me handed back my camera in a roller coaster ride. I have a strap with snaps for when I hand a camera to a novice, but other than that, I hold my camera tighter than I hold my woman!

The best way to destroy your camera is to use the tripod mount to strap your camera to. Why do you think camera manufacturers provide (2) lugs at opposite ends of the body? So that shock loads are absorbed by the camera body evenly.
Friends I lost a German Pentacon MTL3 SLR some 24 years ago with the strap mounted to the tripod screw. The tripod flange was fixed to the body with (3) screws + the metal bottom plate provided additional support. The whole thing just wrenched out along with the bottom plate in a rush to photograph a political bigwig.
This is sound advice from a design engineer and an ex advisor projects in one of the worlds biggest automotive company.
