Manfrotto Tripod maintenance?

12 years 11 months ago #64499 by Archie
Hey guys can I take apart my Manfrotto tripod and clean out all the grim and dirt that might have gotten inside it? The legs are pretty tough to move up and down compared to when it was new. Would you use and lubricant on the legs?

I've never taken mine apart, but wouldn't go putting any lubricant on the legs. Imagine your camera is on the tripod and the legs give out because they are all slick. That could be a disaster.

I clean my Gitzo 5500 tripod and my Manfrotto 055XPROB regularly (about 3-4 times a year) I have linked to an article about cleaning a large Gitzo tripod, many of the steps would be similar. I use a gun cleaning cloth to wipe down the legs after washing them in water and letting them dry

I shoot several times a year with my tripod in salt water and with proper care have never had any problems .... of course it is important to wash the salt water off right after use.

That's just like putting lube on your ball head, accident just waiting to happen
