Sean’s photography is the result of a career built on amazing memories and the story behind each image is timeless. Over the past 12 years Sean has opened several Galleries on the Gold Coast. His most recent opening is his Gallery in Burleigh Heads. The Burleigh Heads Gallery is Sean’s flagship store and his “baby”. Sean calls the Burleigh Heads Gallery his biggest and best creation yet.

What inspired you to become a photographer?
I’ve always loved to show people things and I found photography was the best way to do this. I found it hard to describe to my friends and family what I see in the surf from a surfer’s perspective. Once I got a camera I could do this and it inspire me to keep sharing with others…
Tell us about your first photo that really validated your interest as a photographer.
I took a road trip with my finance at the time around Tasmania, I had a little old film camera which we drove around taking pictures with. Once I got my film developed none of them had worked so I went to a pawn broker to buy a SLR film camera which I had more luck with. I don’t have a specific photo but it was this trip that really started my interest with photography.
Back when you were just starting out, what was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome that?
Money to buy the gear so I just kept working and then making contacts with buyers
What do you enjoy photographing the most?
It’s a tricky one at the moment, I’ve been shooting a lot of other genres lately. It started with Ocean/Surf Photography and then moved into Coastal/Landscape Photography. I shoot a lot of underwater wildlife like whales & seals. I’ve recently been shooting Snowy Mountains in New Zealand and Canadian Alps. A lot of wildlife photography with bears & astro photography. I’ve covered a lot lately but all inspire me the same. It’s tricky to answer so to sum it up I’d say Mother Nature.
What has been your proudest moment as a photographer?
The ability to take my family along with me and share with them what inspires me to go out and create images. Having my kids come out with me with their cameras and getting stoked on taking photos as well would have to be my proudest moment.
How do you feel photography has impacted the way you see the world?
Constantly always looking for an image, it has shown me that there are beautiful things everyone in the
world. For example, you could be sitting in a big city and think that would be a beautiful image right
there.
It’s certainly made me take notice to more beautiful things that I may not have in the past.
What is your best photography related tip?
Get out there and do it. The only way to be in the right place at the right time is to be out there. You’re not going to get a great sunrise if you sleep in, and you’re not going to get that shot on top of the mountain if you don’t climb it. So, push yourself to get out there and you’ll find yourself sitting there at the right time when all the amazing things come together. If you can technically capture this, then your off to a good start
What would you like for people take away from your work?
I’d like to show people what I love & I’d hope they can appreciate what I love and be motived to go find that themselves.
What are some "must have" items in your camera bag?
A good torch & spare camera batteries
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what is the ONE photography book you would want to have with you?
I’ve only ever read one book and it’s how I taught myself a lot of things. It’s called Understanding Exposures.
