The Proper Way to Hang Acrylic, Metal, and Canvas Prints

If you’ve had an acrylic, metal, or canvas print made, that’s the first step in having a stunning picture to display in your home. But simply having an amazing print isn’t enough; you also need to have a proper hanging system to ensure your print doesn’t just simply hang on the wall but instead adds to the aesthetic appeal of the image while ensuring it is safely secured to the wall surface.

Let’s explore the various hanging options for acrylic, metal, and canvas.

Acrylic Prints

The beauty of having your images made as prints under acrylic is that it gives your motifs a clean and unique appearance that’s sure to catch the eye of guests in your home. WhiteWall offers a variety of hanging systems for prints mounted under acrylic that enhances this modern look. For smaller pictures, hooks with spacers give you plenty of security for a stable wall hanging that looks great and hangs level. You can also opt for stainless steel spacers that attach through holes drilled in the corners of your acrylic print. These spacers give your image a modern and minimalistic look that adds to the decor of any room in the house.

Medium- and large-sized prints benefit from a more robust aluminum rail system that is capable of holding more weight. These rail systems are not visible from the front, giving your prints the illusion of floating 0.39” away from the wall. This hidden rail system is affixed to your print before shipment, so all you have to worry about is where to hang your beautiful photograph. This kind of application is a perfect solution for a focal point on a wall in a larger room in your home.

HD Metal Prints

When you have your images printed directly on metal, you want a hanging system that will enhance, not detract from, the beauty of the print. What’s more, when you have such a gorgeous substrate on which to display your photos, you want to be able to take it out of the box and immediately put it on your wall.

HD Metal Prints from WhiteWall do just that. The mounting hardware is attached to the aluminum panel before it’s shipped to you. The hardware isn’t some flimsy, cheap wire either - it’s a gallery-quality rail system that is highly stable and dependable. Once you mount your print to the wall, it won’t be going anywhere. And best of all, this type of mounting system acts as a spacer between your picture and the wall, making it appear as if it’s floating in front of the wall as opposed to just hanging from it.

Canvas Prints

Whether your canvas print is wrapped on a stretcher frame or set in a traditional frame, an integrated hanging system will ensure that the image hangs elegantly in a manner that compliments its beauty.

A canvas print on stretcher frame is ready to hang on the wall, right out of the box, and at no extra cost. You can even choose to place your canvas print within an additional frame, in which case high-strength metal corners help maintain rigidity for a secure wall mount with no warping or bending.

If you opt to have your image printed on canvas and placed in a traditional frame, WhiteWall has two tasteful options. Hamburg is a classic frame that is made of solid wood and is offered in profile widths of 0.79” or 1.57”. It looks great for images in portrait or landscape format that will support them both in terms of safely attaching it to the wall and in terms of increasing its aesthetic appeal.

WhiteWall also offers Basel, a floater frame that is well suited for modern and minimalistic images. The 0.28” shadow gap between the frame and the picture provides a visual separation between the two, giving the image the appearance of floating within the frame. It is available in profile widths of 0.59” or 1.22”, and, like frame Hamburg, accommodates different formats.

These Acrylic Prints are the Bomb!

One of the coolest recent innovations in printing images is the ability to print directly on different materials. Metal can add various types of luster, canvas can make almost any print look like fine art, and printing on wood can create all kinds of effects. Until recently, I hadn't looked closely at acrylic prints or acrylic glass. Well, now I have, and to put it simply, I'm impressed. The folks at Whitewall really hit it out of the park on my second order!

Let me say right up front that the quick snaps of these 2 prints on my wall don't begin to do justice to the optical depth the acrylic cover creates. In fact, you really have to see it to believe it. Anyway, here are the specs on these 2 gorgeous photos:

  • Original Photo Print under Acrylic Glass
  • Image dimensions: 41.9″ x 28″
  • Outer size: 45.1″ x 31.1″ Fuji Crystal DP II, glossy paper
  • Acrylic glass 0.08″ glossy
  • Alu-Dibond 0,12″ backing
  • Hamburg, Profile 1.57″ (brown alder) frame

I'm not sure what the difference is with the cover glass; something about refraction, I guess. All I know is that these photos have more “presence” than the ones mounted under glass.

This isn't the only option for acrylic printing at Whitewall. Take a look at the range of choices available:

direktdruckacryl produktion

Direct printing: 6-color printing directly on the back of a glossy acrylic sheet. They add an aluminum backing and seal the whole thing so that it's one unit. Mounting systems are attached at no additional charge and you can choose from a wide selection of frames or stick with the simplicity of the unframed display.

Print mounted under glossy acrylic: If you prefer a more traditional printing method, this option gives you a brilliant 6-color print on premium paper, then mounted on the back of your choice of 1/16” or 1/4” and backed with aluminum. Mounting options are, of course, included and you can choose from several frames.

Print mounted under matte acrylic: If your print will be hanging in a location with less than ideal lighting, or you simply don't like the glossy finish, you can order your print exactly as above, but covered with acrylic sheet with a matte finish. This surface eliminates most reflections to let your work shine through, although colors may appear a bit more subtle.

If you'd rather have the print on your shelf or desk, there's actually a fourth option: a premium paper print, sandwiched between aluminum and glossy acrylic, with three optional types of stand, so you can display it on your desk, bookshelf, etc. This style also lets you choose 1/6”. 1/8” or 1/4” thick acrylic.

That's a pretty impressive list, don't you think? You'll be even more impressed with the quality, service and speed that this German lab offers. Last, but not least, these gorgeous acrylic prints are surprisingly inexpensive in comparison to many other printing options. By the way, they'll give this treatment to an image as small as 4” x 4”!

If you missed the short video of White Wall's facilities in my last post, it's definitely worth a look. Here it is again:

That's craftsmanship in action, folks! Yes, I'm impressed, but please, don't take my word for anything. Go take a look at Whitewall, upload a favorite photo for printing and see the difference for yourself!
