Onne got his start shooting nearly 30 years ago as a member of the Dutch “Whitbread Around the World Race” team sailing aboard Conny van Rietschoten’s famous entry, Flyer. Onne’s photographs from their record setting adventure became his signature images for some time and led to a career in marine photography. Since that time, Onne has refined his photography skills and is one of the most admired and prolific shooters in the nautical world.
Onne has his studio and a retail gallery in downtown Newport, RI – the heart of the sailing and yachting community on the east coast. From this location, Onne’s gallery sells favorite giclée images to tourists, galleries and interior designers while Onne and his staff crank out assignment and stock photography to a huge editorial and advertising client list. Onne is proud to be one of only 62 sponsored Canon “Explorers of Light,” shooting with the latest Canon EOS 1Dx cameras, and a Canon 5D MkII. Most recently Onne’s endeavors with video have become his passion as he shoots with and tests the latest and greatest still and video cameras that Canon has to offer. Never one to give in to a challenge, Onne finds the evolution of technology in the photography world to be exhilarating and he continues to refine and redefine his style and approach to capturing perfect imagery. Onne’s work is regularly published in sailing and travel magazines worldwide and his stock photos are represented by Corbis, Nature Picture Library and BlueGreen Pictures in the UK.
