Is this the first time you’ve thought about getting acrylic wall art prints made from your images? You may be wondering what’s the big deal about acrylic wall art prints, how acrylic prints are made, and what images work best as HD acrylic photo prints.
I get many of my acrylic wall art prints from Printique, Adorama’s fantastic photographic printing company.
Printique also makes metal prints, canvas wraps, wood prints, and all sorts of other items in addition to their fine acrylic wall art prints.
This article serves as a guide to acrylic wall prints. Let’s dive in and learn why this is a great option for your images.

What Are Acrylic Wall Art Prints?
Acrylic wall art prints are photo prints sandwiched between a sheet of acrylic in front and a durable material for backing behind it for face mount prints.
Another type of acrylic print is what’s made by Printique, the direct printing method, being printed right onto the acrylic with an aluminum backing.
Either way they’re made, an acrylic wall art print becomes an enclosed photographic print that’s very durable, doesn’t require a frame, and has an incredible depth of color and an almost 3D effect that adds to its visual appeal.
How Are Acrylic Prints Made?
Your digital image file is printed onto an optical grade glass-like sheet of acrylic and backed with either a white card stock or a sheet of polished aluminum. The acrylic can be either ¼” or 1” thick.
For larger acrylic print enlargements, options for mounting are an invisible float mount or a visible metal post in your choice of three different colors.
Sizes of Acrylic Wall Art Prints
The acrylic wall art prints made by Printique are available in two different thicknesses: ¼” and 1” thick.
The 1” thick acrylic prints are called “blocks” by Printique, and “wall prints” are their term for the ¼” thick prints.
The wall art prints can be made in several sizes from 4”x6” all the way up to 30”x40” and several square size options ranging from 6”x6” to 30”x30”. The block print sizes are 2x2, 3x3, 4x6, 5x7, 6x6, and 8x10 inches.
The blocks don’t have any other mounting since they are so incredibly thick. The wall art mounts to the wall on a floating mount or metal posts, or they can be free-standing with a back-mounted easel or an acrylic pedestal.
The Best Images for Acrylic Prints
Wall types of images work the best for your acrylic wall art prints?
What images do you normally make into enlargements? Really, any well-made photographic image can be turned into an awesome-looking acrylic print. If you normally make portraits, try one out as an acrylic print. Images with lots of color contrast or color depth tend to add that extra bit of pop when made as acrylic wall art prints.
Black and White images can be turned into a very interesting print that’s full of depth and contrast. Full-color images with great contrast are another type of image that transforms well into an acrylic print.
Whatever type of photography you like - macro photography, architecture, astrophotography, environmental portraits, wedding pictures, travel photography, and so many other styles - all will look amazing when made into acrylic wall art prints.
