Canon EOS R5 Price? You'll Want to be Sitting Down for This...
Canon R5 Price
There have been dozens of rumors for the last few months about the Canon EOS R5, but the price of the camera has been completely absent from the rumor mill...until now.
As TechRadar reports, an Australian camera retailer, Camera Warehouse, has the EOS R5 listed with a price of $10,499 Australian dollars, which translates to around $6,800 U.S. dollars. That's a big price tag!
Of course, there is no telling if this is a legit price that was accidentally posted too soon or if Camera Warehouse is just getting their R5 sales page ready to go and have put this price in as a placeholder. Whatever the case, this price has caused a lot of discussion, and for obvious reasons!
(**Update: The R5 listing page on Camera Warehouse now shows a deposit amount required to reserve an R5, so the price that was previously listed must have been a placeholder.)
While I think that price is a tad steep, if it turns out to be real, it's actually not without precedent.
After all, the Canon EOS 1D X Mark III is $6,499.00 and the Nikon D6 is $6,496.95.
And if you ask me, the EOS R5 looks to be a better camera in a variety of ways than both the D6 and 1D X Mark III, so I can see how Canon could justify a price of nearly $7,000.
If this price is correct, it will definitely filter out the masses from running out and buying this camera.
However, between the specs Canon has gone public with so far, and the few remaining rumored specs, at this price, there will still be a line of photographers selling a kidney to fund getting this new camera...me included!
The R5 should be released in the coming weeks and months, so we'll find out what the real price is soon enough. I desperately want an R5, so I hope the price tag is a bit lower!
