Any comments on how to improve it would be gratefully received

Looks great to me. I like the dark subtle look to the composition.
The rain streaks in my opinion emphasizes the image.

I really like this one. I would also like to see it in portrait format, cropping the left by about 3/4 of the background and the right just nipping the top branches. Hate to lose that horizontal branch though.

This one might be a good candidate for Fractilicus.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Oh, yes. Love the "flow" and the contrast. Fractilicus is a plug-in for PS or Corel ($49) from Redfield. I bought it a couple of week ago and it is fum. I believe they have a trial version. Here is a sample.

If you like, I could try it on yours. It may take a couple of days. I'll be on Prince Edward Island at the College of Piping Celtic Festival this weekend and not sure what the i'net situation will be.

Love the texture and feel! It is all a bit soft, so I would either agree with John and make it even softer/fuzzier, or try brushing in some contrast/sharpening to bring forward some parts of the image.

Definitely like the subject. But I like the cropped photo more. It fills the frame better. I tried shooting roses a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by how difficult it is to do correctly, which I never was able to do.

Honestly John it was pure luck, the camera was set up on a tripod on a kitchen worktop pointing out of an open window, it was blowing a gale and chucking it down with rain. I did think about the composition and how it filled the frame but the lens was at 323 mm, so it is a miracle it worked.
Thank you all for the feedback

Here's a copy from a screen print with a mild dose of Fractalicus, plus one of that with a soft focus applied.
