I have Sigma 85mm and love this lens. So my vote is for the Sigma

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

Thanks. I love the build quality of it.
I brought 3 batteries and my cam and did a crude focus test on 4 different lenses, and picked the one that was the best.

It'll be a day or so before I probably get out and do some real shooting with it.

It appears you approached it the correct way. Tested each lens. Bravo, and hope you enjoy it!

This isn't my typical style of shot. I just want to show how the bokeh handles a busy background. Shot at my friends house. shot at f1.4 with a B+W Kaes polarizer. No saturation or anything like that added pretty much SOOC.

Excellent "test" shot! Really pushes the lens' capabilities. The colors look good. Can't say I like the "bokeh" but I'm not seeing a lot of CA.

A little in the trees, but ALL lenses are going to have some at 1.4 into the sun.

Wish you had Nikon version to compare it to. :)

It reminds me of Canon's bokeh a lot. (talking 85L and 35L here). What don't you like about it? just curious....it's all about taste :)

Looks a bit hard edged to me. Not awful though. I just like creamy. How many "blades"?

Let's see an f/2.0 and f/4.0.

Hard to find a super creamy 1.4 lens. Let me see what I got at f/2.0 if anything. Didn't shoot any f/4.

BTW from all the samples I've seen, and all the reading i've done in the last few days...the nikkor f/1.4's bokeh is busier than this lens.

Sounds like you did your homework.

The 1.4 D is one I had stolen and not yet replaced. I'll probably get the newer G instead.

I had many, many primes, but I thought I'd try the 24-70mm and 70-200mm for awhile.

I still like primes the best. I often grab the 60mm macro. :)
