Is Peter Lik's Photography considered HDR?

12 years 8 months ago #126843 by Crammer
Some of these look like they are HDR photos? But I don't see any reference on his site about HDR? www.peterlik.com/photography/35mm-vertical

Anyone know if these are HDR images?

It could be, but I think he is doing "straight" photography. Shooting at the right time of day when the contrast fits the dynamic range of the sensor (or the latitude of the film).

Matthew :)

He photoshops like crazy. I've seen his raws.

Shows him using a 6x17cm on his site. In the CV (About) section.

It does look like he's pushed the "Saturation" button on a few.

He uses what I cover in my 2nd week assignment. Fill the frame with COLOR.

He uses Mamiya with digital backs and a Linhof 6x17 camera with a digital back. His staff does a lot of editing for him. He also uses a special printing process which cost a lot. So it's a combination of things.

He is a marketer. He actually had a high paying job doing marketing before he started making post cards and eventually worked his way into the fine art market.

Do you do prints for him?

I don't think you need HDR, the color is stunning yet it looks... real. Seems like a lot of techniques go back to the same thing - helps to learn how to compose and use light and get a good image to start with.

Some of Lik's photos shown here are stunning but some look overworked to the point of not looking real anymore. Scotty you must be right that either he does or has people doing various techniques on his photos. It doesn't look surreal as if trying to create that effect, it looks fake. Of course I haven't sold an image for a mil so what do I know.

No Peter Lik does not use HDR. Just a photographer who is at the right place at the right time and knows how to use photoshop. There was a Peter Lik show on the weather channel not that long ago.

Nope but I've chatted with him before.

A lot of his edits or multi-exposure or luminousity masking..so kind of hdr.

One of my buddies uses similiar techniques...just not as drastic.

His stuff is here. www.darklightimaging.com/
