Swapping lens continously vs buying another camera body

13 years 3 months ago #16818 by Gammill
I see why you see pro's with multiple cameras with them, changing out the lens back and forth with one camera body is a pain in the butt. I'm really thinking about picking up a second camera body. So one camera will have the telephoto lens and the other can have the wide angle. Going on a hike it's tedious going back and forth, not to mention if it's dusty, how much dust is getting into the camera during the lens swap?

How many of you have 2 camera bodies for this reason?

I made that choice long ago. Stopping to change lenses costs you good shots. You are correct that changing lenses in the filed can introduce dirt and moisture.
I have an older XT with my 18-55 and an XSi for my 70-300. I can swap either for my 50 prime and still be ready with the other.
I just got a "Cotton Carrier" to help with lugging two cameras around and having them both ready to shoot and get the weight off my neck.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

depends on your budget of course, two bodies wil always be better than one, but it doesnt take long to swap a lens, and so long as you are careful when doing so i.e keeping the body facing downwards and shielding it where possible, you shouldnt get moisture or dust inside the camera.

I will bring my D300 and D700 with me, both with a different lens and ready for what ever action I can find.

Learned long ago that shooting sports required two bodies so I have a pair of D90 bodies that I use.

I've used 3 bodies before for reasons mentioned above.

I have 2 camera bodies I use in the field, although I haven't gotten into much sports photography yet.

The only time I carry a single body is when out on the river. Or also carrying a rifle. Or doing the weekly shopping. ;)

When out specifically for pictures, I always carry two SLRs. Sometimes, two DSLRs, sometimes, one DSLR and one FSLR, sometimes two FSLRs. The pocket camera is always in my pocket, so I guess that makes three.
