Photo contest

When entering a photo contest either online or in real life like a fair.
Should one sign the photo or not?
I understand if the rules mention this, but what if the rules mention nothing about having a signature on the picture?

Like online photo contests, sometimes those pictures are posted on the site for others to see and maybe vote on. Part of me thinks putting my name on the picture is just like if I were to put the picture on any other photo sharing site.

But, for the judging part, does the name get in the way of the picture?

Most contests do NOT want the name on the front of the print. They do not want the photos judged by the photographer's name. It believe PSA (Photographic Society of America) requires that names by taped off if showing on the front of the print.

My experience in showing dogs (St. Bernards) was that some judges judged the wrong end of the leash (dogs with professional handlers got higher marks). That was definitely a political rat race that I was glad to exit.
Most contests do not want that to factor into the scoring.
Interesting Side point - Under PSA rules, nature photos can not have ANY man-made object in the photo or they are eliminated. Our club had to ask the PSA judges to waive that requirement for our club contest since it was not in our bylaws and contest rules.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I have only entered a couple of contests and I never signed my name. Not that I knew if it was a rule, but it never dawned on me to sign my name to my print.
