Another local photography camera store closes doors

There was a small camera store next to where I get my nails done and today I noticed the space was vacant! Are people even going into brick and mortar stores any more? I know I do all my ordering online. Sad to see the doors close, even if I never went in there.

Adorama, B&H and Amazon are killing the mom and pop shops

I'm very lucky to have a good camera shop in my town and also Pacific Rim Camera is only about 20 minutes from home. There's nothing like having the ability to go to the camera shop and chat it up with photographers that have decades of experience! :)

It is what it is.

So many of the brick & mortar stores have killed themselves, as well.... :(

Why so serious?

:agree:
Yeah they all did self-inflicted obsolescence. Many thought that they did not need to have a good online presence. They were wrong.

I haven't been in camera store in long time, always ordering online myself.

I agree Barry, and I miss that here. The owner of our longtime camera shop retired and went out of business, and another one in the area closed too. There is an in-state chain store left in the area left but it's not the same as having a local shop to stop in and talk cameras (it's more of a strip mall type place). I guess as times and the technology has changed some businesses are able to adapt and some aren't.

I wouldn't mind being close to Pacific Rim! Their site is a great resource and they're good to buy from too.

I think that you would have trouble (like me) making it out of Pacific Rim in a reasonable amount of time. The store is geared more for online sales, but I have found that Mike and staff really enjoys when someone makes the time to swing by and talk vintage cameras. Love that place! :)

It is what it is.

They should sell local stores online.

We have local chains both in Virginia and Nova Scotia. Part of the issue is inventory. A friend was trying to decide between a 60D and a T4i. She wanted to hold each one to see which "fit" better. the store would not stock even one 60D. She came over and tried mine and decided on the T4i because of weight. Even then, she had to wait about a week for hers to come in.
Small shops can not maintain the vast inventories that the big guys have. Accessories and print services are often not enough to sustain small stores.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
