Cost of manufacture vs. demand at the price point that such a lens would require.

Do you realize that f/1 means that the maximum aperture equals the focal length?

The demand just won't be there in this digital age as the cameras' low light performance improves. (Today's f/1.8 is yesterday's f/1.4, etc.)

Since you shoot Nikon, you might look at the 58mm f/1.2, a relative bargain...if you can find one.

:judge: You can find other "fast" lenses, however, the DOF when using one is almost non existent...

I would dare say that you probably wouldn't lose money on it as long as you took care of it, but yeah, that is a lot of money. I'm not sure about the canon 50 1.2 but the Nikon 50mm 1.2 looks like a smoking deal compared to the Leica. I think that the Leica is a better lens but .... $10,000 worth of better? Probably not, then again the Leica has the built in lens hood. ;)

It does have a shallower depth of field from what I have read. But not enough for the price difference. I imagine that it is sharper at 1.2 over the 1.2. Again not enough for that price. Also there is supposed to be a 40mm f 0.85 lens out there for mirrorless cameras. Do not know if that one actually came out or not.
