Do you prefer to go into camera store or order from online?

OK, so here are my thoughts. Your screwed either way! It's liking going to Vegas the temptation is always there, one more quarter into a slot machine before you jump on the plane home

I visited a camera store over the weekend and temptation is a beast! Talk about guy in a candy store!! So many things I want.

But then if I go shopping online, well many online stores have "recommendations" popping up as you are trying to check out  :toetap:  Temptation is all around us!

So which do you prefer? Going into the store or online? Personally I like going into the store, but I believe the temptation is worse there.

I've never bought camera equipment online. I get cheaper prices by going to a local store and negotiating a bit anyway.

Not everyone lives in Hong Kong though. :p

Camera stores are getting harder to find in the States. I check out new models in stores for "feel", check their prices and compare to B&H. B&H has an "affiliate program" for camera clubs. If I access the B&H site from our club site and purchase, the club gets a 2% "commission". I get good products at good prices and the club gets funds to sponsor workshops, etc. WIN-WIN

It used to be brick & mortar stores, but as Baydream pointed out, they are becoming scarce anymore & thus most of my purchases are online...

Seems to me the U.S. does a lot of online stuff. Shops like B&H and Adorama who've got a mix of online and retail are doing really well.

100% on line. A couple B&M stores within 100 miles, and they suck.
B&H, Adorama and sometimes Amazon for me.............:)

Why so serious?

Another vote for "online" Adorama, B&H and Amazon.

If you thought that your visit to the local camera shop was tough then never, never, never go to New York City and visit the Adorama or B&H "brick and mortar" stores! So much selection, so much stuff to try out .... so little money left as you leave!!!

"so little money left as you leave!!! "

That's the truth...Especially after paying the New York taxes on purchases...That said, B&H's store in New York takes up a whole city block...You can get lost in there for days.

Best Buy is the only store in my area that carries a good range of photography equipment. However they are a bit higher then buying online. So I will only buy at best buy if it's something I want now. Otherwise I buy online.

My Nikon D50 was bought as a package on Ebay. Did the same thing for my husband's d50.
Then I bought D80 at best buy, hubby bought his d80 at circuit city because they were going out of business.

We did go to B&H store in NY, crowded as hell. Didn't buy anything.

From here are out, the cameras we plan to buy are not sold in stores (not in our area). So I will be buying from B&H online.

It takes up a corner. When I was there, getting lost was because of all the people who were in there.

I prefer to go into a store, you can always touch the item and talk face to face with a rep

My issue with "the rep" is that they are often biased based on the brand they use. I agree with getting the "feel" of the product but I also do a lot of outside research before buying. You can tell by the posts here that opinions vary on almost every brand, product and service. Also, consider whether the rep is selling on commission or is salaried.

I prefer in store, but online is really the only option any more.
