Nikon could be out of business in 5 years?

I was part of that other thread and was firmly in the "Canon and Nikon aren't going anywhere" camp. I'm a Canon person myself *hides from the Nikon users* but Nikon is a top company. Five years? No. Ten years? Possibly. 15-20 years? I could believe that, but only if another company comes in to edge them out. I predict a big tech company like Apple, Google, or Microsoft (lol seriously) might try to break into the market in the next decade or so and then it could happen. I guess Sony could get a bigger share at some point too maybe.

They publish annual reports of their earnings, and production. There might be some numbers out there in an article.

I do not think the Japanese government is like ours bailing out companies that are run into the ground from stupidity. Besides Nikon like Canon are not just about cameras.

That's the gospel. They can't define truth, so they make stuff up. Here's a 2012 report showing Nikon's doing fine. They will continue to do well, as long as they can avoid hiring idiot US politicians or media traitors as financial consultants.....

Why so serious?

I could have predicted Kodak going out of business 10 years ago. That's when digital was getting more popular and even then Kodak wasn't keeping up.

I'd only be worried about Nikon if it were an American firm. The Japanese are less stupid, at business and especially gubmint levels....

Nikon's too big to fail?! :patriot:

Guess the difference between Nikon and Canon is that Canon has a diversified portfolio (cameras, printers, copiers, etc.). Company wide,
Nikon has sales of $8.5B US and Kodak about half of that. Canon totals
about $34B.
Nikon is the photo portion of Mitsubishi.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Then they'll be OK Mitsubishi is a HUGE company that makes many, many things (pretty sure I have a Mitsubishi pen around here somewhere).

Haha the conflicting reports are great. I guess you really can't predict these things with any sort of certainty. Seems like the one that is predicting that it'll fail is definitely in the minority though.

It's all just a ruse to drive up competitors sales.  Or something.  lol  The guy who wrote that article is a canon plant haha

Media will say anything just to get a click!  I'm a Nikon user, so of course had to see what this is all about.  I don't think Nikon is going anywhere.  If things got rough, they would downsize to more manageable company, but wouldn't close.

I actually hope this is true. I should buy a bunch of spare Canon stuff so when all the Nikon users come running I can sell the lenses off at a profit.
