No, the thieves will turn the mount the wrong way and get caught.

I can't believe this!  I travel with my camera gear often, and this is really an eye opening realization.

When people shove something in your face like that, they're more than likely distracting you... just sayin'

True, but you have to admit it's overwhelming when you have so many in front of you.  I think the photographer could have avoided this by holding camera at join of lens.  That's what I personally do when in large groups.

Wasn't me :)

Exactly this.  I never let go of my camera.  The strap is mainly so that I don't drop it if I lose my grip, but I keep my grip pretty tight to begin with.

That's brutal, I would be swinging my tripod at those people

I've seen this video before and started wondering if it was staged. Obviously someone is recording this and doesn't stop to call for help or anything - and if that person is a buddy of the thieves it's not too bright to post the evidence of the theft... not that that doesn't sometimes happen.

But there's someone to the right, you can see the back of his head - would you stand there that close to an altercation and not react in some way?? not try to move away, call for help - even show surprise at what's happening all of a sudden right in front of you?? Unless he's in on the whole thing, the gray haired blue shirt dude just seems to keep watching like nothing's going on.

The location too looks like the back of a shopping center parking lot, like they're in back near a loading dock - why would a tourist keep walking with this pack of people surrounding him and not try to move away from them? head toward a more public area or shout or clobber one of them with the camera or something?? Seems odd.

Is this real?  Looks potentially staged?
