Will Nikon and Canon move away from the mirrored sensor now?

So with the Canon R and Nikon Z series, what do you think Nikon and Canon's future intent will be now?  Mirror or no mirror?

For a while, both.

Why so serious?

Perhaps after 5 years I would guess we might see more mirrorless cameras in their offering than mirrored.

D300| Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 | Nikkor 70-200mm VR 2.8 | Nikkor 50mm 1.8 | Nikon 2x Teleconverter | Sigma 105mm 2.8 | Tokina 12-24

I have to admit that I am not impressed by the mirrorless hype.
I grew up (since the F2), made a career and loved the SRL and
now the DSRL.

They can do what the market will wish for but if there was still
a future for me (I am considering retirement) I would neverthe-
less stay attached to the DSRL.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I don't think this will happen anytime  during next decade.

I doubt it.  I don't think enough market interest to support their revenue needs.

EF 50mm f/1.4
EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
EF 100mm f/2
EF 70-200mm f/4
EF 18-55mm

:agree: More development is needed.  Next version should be looking good.

I don't think they are going to move away from anything right now.  I do bet we'll see a lot more focus from both brands on mirrorless now.  Much MORE focus.

Agree, after the 2nd and 3rd versions of these mirrorless cameras from both Nikon and Canon, I would guess that that time, more market share/push will be focused by each.

Users will decide on the time, but a smaller, lighter, quieter more efficient camera is in the future for certain.

Why so serious?

:agree:  and both companies will attempt to move with the markets flow, or the anticipated flow.

G'day Peter

We've had similar discussions on other threads here ...

Over the past 3-5 years various industry commentators have predicted that over a 5 to 10 yr period, nearly all consumer-level dSLRs will become mirrorless, with mirrored versions remaining available as 'legacy' units for professionals. We are obviously at the start of the mirrorles-SLR era, and with normal product evolution, whatever issues currently exist will be ironed out. I would predict that 'your' next dSLR if purchased from say, 2020 onwards will be mirrorless

For me, having used mirrorless now for many years, there is no going back to a mirrored camera body. The large, clinky mirrored body is a PITA - there is no other description for it. While the mirror is excellent and well refined technology, the optical viewfinder cannot compete with the EVF for functionality and operation
