Is the DSLR dying?

Another photographers blog post on another site spoke about DSLRs are dying and close to dead.  I didn't agree with him, and voiced my thoughts about how the DSLR is far from dead.  Now I agree mirrorless stands a good chance of being the next big thing.  But by no stretch is this side of the market dead.  

What's funny, is him or someone deleted my post there today.  

So what do you think?

I think we position ourselves as an expert by not tolerating opposing and/or well-supported perspectives counter to our own.

Why bother giving someone like that your time?

Yes and no. DSLR cameras will end up no longer being the flagships of the major brands that is for sure. The Sony A7 series has proven itself a workhorse in all fields, I'm sure as Canon and Nikon, late to the game though they may be, will improve on their initial offerings and that mirrorless cameras will take the top spot as the big daddy pro grade cameras. DSLRs are older technology and the process drop as mirrorless cameras become the favored line will lower prices on even pro grade offerings making them ideal for hobbyists and beginners.

U.S. wholesale camera sales (sales to dealers) were $4.8 billion in 2013.  They fell to $1.94 billion in 2017.  What does that tell you?

It tells me photographers are staying with gear longer now, and not upgrading with every new innovation. I still use a  D800, (purchased in 2013)  and its not even close to obsolete.....

One vote for Ernesto!

I still use my D3S and D3X and relish every frame I get — bought
before 2013!. 

As for the death of the DSLR… I looking forward to see what Nikon
will come up with in the D6 (I did not go for the D4 nor the D5)!
Light is free… capturing it is not!

IMO, Yes. 
There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

Yes, just like what happened with point and shoot cameras 8-10 years ago.  We are at that beginning stage of a weak market falling to it's knees.

It tells me that camera-phones are getting better.
There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.
