Photographers with bifocals...

5 years 2 months ago #628272 by Pierce Steenken
Well I officially feel old.  I got my first pair of bifocals today and not sure what I think. When I view my screen, it's not sharp and I feel either my prescription is off for this sort of viewing or they goofed and gave me the wrong glass or something.

Did you request different prescription for your photography usage?

Thanks!

Your prescription may be for day to day life but maybe
that doesn't include reading?

I need glasses of different dioptrics: 2.75 for reading and
1,75 for the computer. Otherwise, I enjoy perfect vision.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Your computer screen?

I've had progressive trifocals for more years than I care to mention, and I've become acclimated to them. My head tilt is automatic now. If you have traditional bifocals, you may find that you need specific glasses for computer work, per the above.

Talk to your eye care professional.

I would like to add that as you say it's your first day, don't worry , you will adjust.  When I first got my bifocals I had a hard time walking especially down steps.  My depth perception was tweaked for awhile ( few days).  Now, I can't see without them OR READ, except when working in the garden.  I can do yard stuff all day long without them on.  :)

I have progressive and no problem with the viewfinder.  I adjusted the viewfinder’s diopter and Viola!  I also have contacts.  With the contacts, which have less adjustment potential, I took a camera into the doctor’s office to check out the ‘view’ prior to ordering.

There are photographs everywhere. It is the call of photographers to see and capture those images.

G'day Pierce

Ah mate .... we all go thru it - it's called "getting old mate"

Over the past 30-or so yrs I've been with bi-focals and varifocals and back to single-focals as I have had to come to terms with the fact that "I ain't getting any younger" (I am now in my 70s)

For many years as an I.T. professional, I had a special set of specs made up where the bifocal part covered 3/4 of the total lens - it came up to the nose-piece / bridge in the frame, with regular lens above that.  It meant that while at the keyboard & screen & my desk, everything was in focus range, but I could glance upwards thru the top of the specs and see others in the office

I have also found that wearing bifocals as I bushwalk made things 'funny' as the area where my feet were about to tread went fuzzy - so I went back to a single lens set of specs for bushwalking & my photography

My varifocals were a disaster - trying to live with them for 18 months, back to the optometrist many times for adjustments, but they were eventually chucked away

Hope this helps
