True!  I use my gear and it shows.  However you never get used to the sound of something pricey taking a fall to the ground!  Knock on wood, the is technically the first major fall for any of my gear.  Hopefully it will be the last!

Hey John, you got that right,  Lesson learned!

How are you doing friend, you are in Italy right now?

Man, what is that going to cost to repair?

Positive note, as so many others have pointed out, it could have gone a lot worse.

Too bad that L bracket didn't take the hit, that thing likely would have walked away with just scrapes.  Any damage to your lens?

For those reading this and future reference, I attach my camera via a tether to the tripod.  I made my tether out of 500lb para cord and a couple carabiners.  I attach one to a split ring through one of the carry loop studs on the camera and the other to the tripod.  A Friend's Canon 1Dx and 600mm F4L lens fell from his tripod. Fortunately it wasn't hurt but after that he uses a tether like mine (I copied the  idea from him)..  Gives tremendous peace of mind.  I also use a tether to attach my camera to a second attachment point on my strap.

Glad your camera still works.  That looks like it took an ugly fall

That button really did spin around a bit there Alex.  Does it feel loose?  I'm really surprised that kept working.  But hey, that is a good thing of course!

How cold was it there?

Dang dude, that just sucks!

Well it's like a scar, chicks dig scars.  Your camera now has character.
