Quickest way to dump photos from SD card to SSD with no computer?

Hey guys, when you don't have a computer handy and you need to dump photos off your SD card to a SSD, what options are there?

Short answer: none.

The SD contains data to back up to any other device, a
CPU and OS of some kind has to manage the transfer of
that data to another medium. Data transfer is managed.

Google for "portable hard drive with SD card slot" and you'll find many, many products.

Suggest: SSD for lower power usage, and rough handling
Suggest: rugged case
Suggest: buy enough SD cards that you don't have to recycle them while you're out

If you use a fresh card every day, and also back it up, you'll have two copies, which is much safer than one.  Just sayin'.

There has been at least two threads on here regarding a rather expensive portable solution, which primary value lay only in the fact that it included a media reader. As an external drive it was grossly overpriced, but IIRC it ticked all of the above boxes. I can't remember the name of the product. Your best bet is to go searching and researching.

(What odd words.... the later does not mean a repeat of the former, in this context, although spelling suggests that it does...)

Thank you.  Yes I found a thread talking about Gnarbox, which seemed expensive.  Was hoping to see other options coming up.

Good advise, thank you

That was it. The Gnarbox has lots of features, so you need to figure out what you really need to be able to accomplish.

Me, all I'd want is to be able to transfer files. The speed at which that could happen would be my primary concern.

Very cool!
With integrated file management and CPU.
The two TB capacity option is great too!

Why not just bring some spare memory cards with you?  Problem solved.
