Temperature question - camera battery left in car

3 years 9 months ago #691471 by J Photo Man
I accidently left one of my camera batteries in my car today.  The car is normally in my garage, but I had out outdoors today because my garage floor is getting redone.  This battery was very hot to touch.

Will a battery get messed up from leaving in the sun or hot car?

A well built battery should take that without a sweat,
the problem is one that gets hot while operating.

Let it cool down and, if well made, you can use it again. :)

Light is free… capturing it is not!

ADDENDUM

If the logo jacket is intact, it should be ok but if
damaged, handle with care and surveillance.

I don't get my gear (batteries included) in any extreme temps.  Just keep it safe.

OK, cool beans.  Thank you.  When I grabbed the battery and it was so hot to touch, that had me very concerned.  Thanks again guys.

Yes. I've accidentally done this with electronics once or twice. Let it cool off, and it should be fine.

i've done this fairly often and haven't had any issues.  when traveling (for purposes other than photography) you don't really have a choice.  storing a battery in a hot car over time can reduce the life of the battery, but a few times here and there won't make a difference.

It gets hot here during summer months, and have on many occasions left my gear in my car.  Never any issues.
