Portable softbox?

What options do I have for portable soft boxes? Have any of you used one of those white translucent domes you put over your flash? How spread out and even does the light shin with these?

I have the impact Mini Softbox. It seems to do a good job. I think it was less than $15 with shipping from B&H. The diffuser has velcro sides and top so it can flip back out of the way for "bare bulb" shots.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I have both a StoFen diffuser & a "Joe Demb DFD Pro" diffuser that I use on my speedlights. The Stofen slides over the flash head & the Demb unit attaches via velcro

Gary Fong, I want to say I have only heard of his light modifiers and have not used. I might be picking up one of his domes.

I have heard many stories about Gary Fongs units falling off of the flash heads at inopportune times. That plus you do lose a stop or two of light using them

I have a couple of those too, Alex. I also have a fong sphere, and I think the ultimate lightbox actually works better (but not quite as sturdy)

I have a Fong sphere for my Sigma flash .... love it. Fong also makes a diffuser that slides right on to your camera's hot shoe to diffuse the built in flash....for a little kiss of fill, not too bad if you use manual flash and VERY portable. Softbox is on my list of things to get.

It is what it is.

Now are these flash specific, meaning if you have one for a SB600, will it also work for SB800?

Most are, the heads are different sizes.

Oh I agree, this thing is awesome. No problems with mine, what flash you have it on?

Yes, they're flash specific. If you have more than one speedlight, you'll need to get the applicable attachment fixture.
