What catches your eye?

What catches your eye when shooting?
I see a LOT of great photos on this forum and they really do inspire me. I try to do a photo out of the blue and see how it turns out, but not all that great.

You can't just take a picture out of the blue and hope for the best.

I see the light, the angles, the shapes. The beauty in flowers, there are so many bright colors with flowers that draw me in for a macro shot. When I get closer, I see there is a bee, an ant to shoot more macro.
For landscape...I just love nature in general. I love the outdoors. Love the views.
Wildlife, simple it amazes me. Heck everything about photography amazes me. But to study wildlife, to shoot wildlife, is well...cool. lol To be fairly close to wildlife, that is more then just the typical backyard bird.

It all catches my eye to photograph it.

I try to shoot with a "what if" attitude. I'll snap off a dozen shots at a bird thinking what if she flies in a special way and my shutter happens to catch it just right. I've taken shots of my boat wake with the thought that the rhythmic waves of my passage might make a pattern of light and color that would make me remember that time and place. The promise of a beautiful day is in the colors of the dawn and the shapes drawn in the clouds by the breezes aloft. In a serene moment I try to capture the tranquility, the space, the cadence of the time. Some might argue that these things are not in an image. I try to look at it with my eyes and mind open.

:agree:

I'm the same way with wildlife. Just keep on clicking, because you just never know what will happen and what kind of shot you end of getting.

I remember last summer, my husband and I were out with several photographers photographing eagles fishing off the river. I shot an eagle catching a fish (we all did), however I followed that eagle shooting it, soon an another eagle came over and tried taking the fish from the first eagle.
I was the only one who saw this and got shots of it. Of course it was a far away shot, because it was on the other side of the river, but...you just never do know what will happen.

Dewitt Jones' latest Celebrate Photo says it best.
When the great photographer, Minor White, would go out to photograph
he would never say, "What will I take today?"

Rather he would ask, "What will I be given today?"
